Unexclusive: LBP Killzone 2 Pack
Okay so we have no inside information on this one, but seriously, we've already seen the actual costumes way back - surely they would've been released already if they weren't being held back for either a costume pack, level pack or both to coincide with the game's release this February. Please be true!

TWP Awards 08: Best Narration

LittleBigPaintball

In case you haven't heard, that small company called Media Molecule is cooking up one HELL of a post-launch content-fest, this time in the form of two packs: The MGS Premium Costume Pack, and the MGS Premium Level Pack, both for $5.99 each!
The costume pack is what you'd expect, 4 costumes (Old Snake, Meryl, Screaming Mantis and Raiden) which can be bought for $1.99 each that adorn your Sack person in the most stealthily adorable costumes yet.
But the level pack...with that they'll be introducing a power-up called the Paintinator (sort of like the jetpack one) that allows the Sack person you're controlling to run around with a paintball gun and fire things! Your Sack person is equipped and with a press of a button fire's paintballs! This gun also comes with a paint detector switch that can be linked to a life bar! Meaning enemies...with actual health! But that's not all, this power-up leads the way for more possibilities; imagine it...
Snorkeling gear! Grants the Sack person to swim in pre-build objects of water! A lightsaber! Allows cutting through certain objects! The possibilities, much like that game, are endless.
But that's not all! The level pack also includes proper levels! 5 story ones and a challenge level, all in the theme of MGS. Completing the levels and collecting the prizes will net you with another costume (Gurlokovich Soldier), 72 stickers (!!!), 12 materials, 10 decorations, and 18 objects!
...BUT WAIT. THERE'S MORE. With that you'll also get:
- 1 new background music track.
- 3 new interactive music tracks.
- 1 new Metal Gear Solid themed ‘sound object’.
- New Plasma Ball ‘danger element’.
- New Laser Sight ‘gadget’. (hang on, what?)
- New functioning Searchlight lamp.
- QuickFire Artiste
- Rexecutioner
- Ace Act 3 and Act 4
- Ace Act 5: The Boss
- Paint Splurge
- Diamond Hunter
- Thrifty Painter
- METAL GEAR SOLID® Booty Master
- Paint Sharer
- Virtual Survivor
- Speedy Rexecutioner
...Bloody hell. Bring on the 23rd.

Whatever You Want
- Want the Astro Tripper trophy list? Right here.
- Yes, GTi Club has trophies too, they're here.
- So does Blast Factor. Looky here.
- The Wanderer's awesome Home unlockable list is here, for those people of you looking for it.
- The GECK add-on for Fallout 3 is indeed now available on PC, and no we don't think it'll be coming to PS3. Should GECK make it to a console at all, Microsoft already bought the exclusive rights to console DLC.
- And if you're trying to get the Blast Factor trophies and happen to be in Europe, that would explain why you're not getting any, the trophy patch is yet to go live here. And no, we don't know when it's coming. Here's hoping soon (and ditto for Echochrome and High Velocity Bowling).
- The latest we've heard, the Resident Evil 5 demo is coming "early 2009".
- A red exclamation mark on a costume in your LBP Popit menu means there is an issue with the costume. This can be for one of two reasons: either the account you downloaded the costume from has been deleted from your PS3 (or the password has changed if you've got it from another account) so the costume has been de-autorised. If this isn't applicable or the mark shows up on a costume you've made yourself, it's a problem with your game data file. There's nothing you can do apart from delete the data and try again.
- Oh, and you can get Home by just going to the Home icon under the PlayStation Network category in the XMB.

Store Detectives: 28/11/08
There's both a demo and full release for Capcom's Age of Booty. My advice is most definitely to get the demo first, because as much as the game intrigues me from what I've played, you'd need to really like it to justify the £8 price tag. But, if you feel like a gamble, there are much worse games than this on the Store. AREN'T THERE GTI CLUB? Yes, yes there are. I was willing to give the Club the benefit of the doubt at Eurogamer seeing as it was quite fun, but from reviews and the demo now available on the store, I would like to admit I was wrong (hear that women?), and in fact, the game is quite shit. There's also a Dead Space demo, which I downloaded, and which also only confirmed that I quite want this game.
Syndicate Wars is a difficult game to talk about. Before you ask, I haven't downloaded it and here's why: it's not the sort of game that ages well. Admittedly the same could be said on less of a scale for Crash Bandicoot, but Syndicate Wars, although being pretty amazing in scope and gameplay for its time (and the series still has a great plot), it doesn't hold up at all nowadays. Which is sad, because it was an awesome game. Good point: great quotes. Bad point: the story doesn't make sense because the original wasn't available for PlayStation and so isn't on the Store. Get it if you want, but my recommendation is to avoid.
To add-ons then! The LBP Chimera costume is awesome (although why its 60p more than the MotorStorm one, I don't understand) and if wandering around with a giant turkey on your head is your thing then go ahead and grab this weeks freebie too. No other content for any of the games we have this week, my copy of FarCry is only borrowed, but for the amount of stuff in the expansion, it seems well worth it. And did anyone genuinely buy G1 Jockey 4? Why is there even a 4?
Oh, guess what? This week's Tomb Raider video is still shit. And the fact it is labeled "Enemies #1" scares me into thinking there'll be more next week. I'm pretty sure everyone that wants the game now has it, although with the amount of 360+Underworld advertising going around, I don't even know if people are aware its out on PS3. The two Resistance videos (one the regular TV spot, and one a new action trailer) really sum up the atmosphere of the new game in comparison to the old. Basically, less British. As much as I loved the original, the sequel seems a bit generic in amongst all the new and interesting games this month, maybe I'll pick it up later on. The Naruto trailer interests me even less - it looks just like all the other anime-based games around.
Oh Shoot, why must you ruin it so quickly? After a fantastic film last week, this weeks (by a Frenchman - double gah) is pretty rubbishy. Here's hoping for next week eh? Oh and the HVB theme is ugly as sin. Don't Sony realize people only use nice-looking themes?
PSP-wise there's the marvelous LocoRoco 2, continuing Sony's promised streak of Store-released new games, and Super Stardust Portable also appeared earlier this week.
Okay...so this week my recommendations are: the two LBP costumes of you have that game (if not, why not?), the FarCry content if you've got that, the Dead Space and Age of Booty demos, Resistance action trailer, and if you've got a PSP, both of the new full game releases.

Secrets No More

Posting so late on a Saturday night? My god, you barely post at all at the weekends anyway? What gives?
Well this is Octopus here, and I'm up late with some exciting news! Sony Europe held their annual staff briefing at the end of this week (everyone was there - this was why no-one noticed the Home e-mail bug), and I've done some digging to find out what Sony has up its lovingly sackcrafted sleeves.
Firstly, confirmation that there will be PSP versions of both MotorStorm and LittleBigPlanet (the latter of which has only been in development for four months). Expect MS towards the end of next year, and LBP in late 09, early 2010. Fits in to my guessed timeline - PSP2 at E3 2010.
On to PS3 now, and besides hinting at a March price cut, SCEE big boss David Reeves also showed a short teaser trailer for Uncharted 2 (name TBC) with some Aztec masks and a nice explosion. Killzone 2 was briefly teased and God of War III was shown off in such a way that no-one could work out if it was in-game or CGI. There were also murmurs of technological innovations for both PSP and PS3. Finally, Sony has much more planned for the PlayStation Network, but kept schtum on what this entails besides adding online content to Blu-Ray titles.
Hopefully we'll be seeing Uncharted 2 and God of War again at Gamers Day or PlayStation Day, whichever Sony decides to do this Spring. Roll on the next year of PlayStation!

Demands
5. Burnout Paradise
Okay, so this game is ancient now (Jan 08), but that doesn't give you an excuse not to buy it; its Platinum-priced at retail and about £25 on the PlayStation Store. There's been a steady stream of game-changing updates to the game this year so far, and from the recent announcements over on Criterion's website, it doesn't look like this is going to change going into next year. Expect a full review very very soon.
4. SingStar
Go on, admit this one made you go "say wha, girlfriend?". Hear me out, Christmas-time is when all your relatives are round, so just set up some pass-the-mic rounds, add in some tacky tunes (or the new Abba disk for added cheesiness) and they'll be distracted for hours. Sneak a girl (or two if you choose) in the back door and head upstairs. Leave to simmer for 15 minutes. And if instead you'll be sitting around all on your lonesome, trying to figure out how to pull both ends of a cracker yourself, a nice ballad or two will have you bawling your eyes out and then promptly falling asleep. Christmas Day solved either way.
3. Resistance 2
Skimpy parents? Pretty much guaranteed that this will be the one time you get a game all year? Then grab R2. A pretty substantial and engrossing single player mode, a seperate co-op mode for up to eight-players online or off, and a full-featured multiplayer mode that is all kinds of fun. All of this, as well as Trophies, will keep you playing the game well into next year.
2. Mirror's Edge
Number two is a toughie, but I've gone for the complete opposite of Resistance. Fancy a relatively short game, but one that's unique and incredibly intricate? Then go for Mirror's Edge. Set in a dystopian future where Runners carry packages between underground rebels, it actually works best as an on-foot racing game, taking alternate routes in an attempt to get to your destination ASAP.
1. LittleBigPlanet
Okay so this one was pretty inevitable, but look at it! It's got Burnout's post-launch support, SingStar's all-out fun, R2's longevity and Mirror's Edge's beauty. It is such a rare thing nowadays to see a game (from a relatively unknown studio too) tick all these boxes, and it is an absolute must-buy for any gamer worth his weight in prize bubbles. Epic review coming shortly.

Weekend Roundup #7
Woah, busy week on the blog. A whole 14 posts breaks the weekly record here on TWP, signaling both that we are paying more attention to blogging, and at the same time do not want to do homework. Anyway, lets dive in to the gaming goings-on of the last week.
Both myself and the Wanderer have been pretty dedicated to LittleBigPlanet this week, pretty unsurprisingly. Both having run through the Story mode at least one-and-a-half times, we're getting pretty awesome: he's aced the whole game and collected nearly everything, and I'm not too far behind. We're now both focused on making some levels ourselves, and have been dabbling also in some online playing (which would be a lot easier if the servers weren't so temperamental. My PS3 also decided to have a few days of crazy towards the end of the week which was no fun, but a Games Lounge held at school on Friday gave me a chance to play some good old fashioned PAIN Bowling with Wanderer and some other mates (I shotgunned the Hoff, naturally). Fryingpan on the other hand has been indulging here and there in LBP but mostly playing Left4Dead which he declares to be awesome (check out his post from earlier this week for evidence of creative juice). He's also grabbed CoD: World at War so expect to hear more from him on that soon; our hands on with the multiplayer mode at Eurogamer was too mental to talk about due to noobiness.
Apparently the developers and newsmakers have been having a busy week too, so here's my pick of the stories you may have missed:
- The guys at Guerrilla unveiled the European boxart for Killzone 2.
- Jeff over at the PlayStation Blog announced a redesign for next week.
- Nate Fox from Sucker Punch stayed suspiciously quiet on the inclusion of co-op in inFamous in a web chat on Eurogamer.
- Aaaand the 2D version of Mirror's Edge stole my spare time.
See you soon.

Store Detectives: 15/11/08
Neither of us have Guitar Hero, Rock Band, SoulCalibur or Star Wars, so all that DLC is wasted on us. I grabbed the PAIN bits, Aquatic avoided the Dead Space stuff, our friend with Everybody's Golf reports that the character pack is pretty overblown price-wise, and another with Civilisation says the map packs are very cheap for a lot of content. The new PAIN expansion pack adds a whole new level, and although its not as interesting as the Abusement Pack at first glance, spend some time messing around with all the interactive elements, as well as the three launcher positions, and you'll find there's a lot of depth there. Oh and Hasslehoff has some fantastic lines. The Wanderer's reasoning for not getting the Dead Space costumes and weapons is that he doesn't want to cheapen the game by using an easier/tougher suit. Everybody's Golf wise, the costumes are kind of meh, and on the CivRev front, the continual flow of DLC is apparently keeping the game surprisingly fresh. LBP costumes this week include the free competition winner one, and four quite cheap anmal costumes available either together in a pack or separately (none of them are as good as last weeks).
Video-wise there's a lot going on this week: trailers and the first of the Shoot content. Shoot is a series of short films (made in HD) created by some upcoming directors from across Europe, and backed up by leading filmmakers such as Jerry Bruckheimer. This week there's a trailer for the whole series, as well as very interesting trailers for each film, that talk a bit about the premise, the style and the people involved. Elsewhere, the Bioshock 2 trailer looks even better on TV than the internets, the SWS trailer isn't that exciting, SoulCalibur is still boring, Tomb Raider behind-the-scenes are still tedious, and the EndWar and MotorStorm vids are both pretty sweet if you're on the fence about getting either game.
There's also some pretty awesome FarCry 2 wallpapers, and a kind of plasticy-looking GT5 theme. My reccomendations this week are to grab whatever free DLC is applicable and for paid bits get the CivRev, PAIN and LBP stuff if you have the games, everythign else is a bit rubbishy. Here's hoping for some demos or games next week.

LittleBigLiveblog Day 2
Previously on LittleBigLiveblog: I was blown away by prettiness, remarkable gameplay and happy.
(same as yesterday, latest posts at the bottom)
15.45: Home early from school today due to golfing activities, so might as well get some hours in before the family get home and nag me to do my homework.
15.48: Servers down apparently, how annoying :(
15.48: No reason not to continue the story mode though!
15.50: Oh god, only been away a day and I forgot how hard this game was getting.
16.07: However, I am done with Mexico - so much character there - and now I'm on to The Metropolis.
16.09: Just so you know, I'm not rushing through the game not collecting anything, but nor am I hoarding everythign I find. I'm playing through at pretty regular speed, and picking up as many of the prize bubbles as I can (hence my many stickers and decorations on Create mode).
16.10: The Metropolis levels, on top of being ultra-hard, are also ultra-electricky. And about cars.
16.12: Lowriders are fun to bounce on.
16.12: Internet has just informed me that the servers are down again, guess I'll be sticking in the Story mode for a bit.
16.14: Drive some, bounce to collect something or other. Rinse and repeat. Love it.
16.23: For those of you worried that LittleBigPlanet would be too accessible, think again. The early levels (Gardens, Savannah, some of the Wedding) may be softer than a freshly made Mr Whippy, but these later stages are more hardcore than Slovakian pornography.
16.25: Currently wearing a Victorian-style stripy bathing top, pink boxer shorts, and have just replaced my big zebra head with a sombrero I won in the Mexian levels.
16.34: Accepting defeat on this level now, back later!
18.22: Store update with costumes! (Watch out for a new Store-related feature soon). Internet wallet now lighter, Popit heavier.
18.31: In game now, and am decked out in an incredibly sexy pair of MotorStorm-themed leather trousers, the Week 1 t-shirt and Spaceman helmet. Go me! Go capitalism!
18.57: Metropolis done! Jeez, that got a bit tough.
19.11: Online now (servers back up, but actually seem to be worse than earlier, go figure).
19.13: Played a couple of levels - strange lag tonight :(
19.21: Lag gone now apparently, jumping around in a stranger's Pod with the blue-coloured owner, a lion and a hippie.
19.24: Doing a dance routine with a lion on top of the controller in the Pod: best way to distract the person trying to pick a level.
19.26: Having a few issues launching us into the level together at the moment.
19.27: No problem! The four of us having much much muted fun here in the Pod - decorating remote Pods also not working at the moment. I forsee much more maintenance.
19.41: As lovely as all this is, it can get a bit stale without playing any levels or being able to communicate in any way that isnt dragging or slapping. Back to single-player.
19.53: The Islands are even more difficult - all about agility and balance; plenty of swinging and guessign jumps here.
19.57: One thing LBP is really pulling off throughout the Story mode is the theming. For instance, these levels are all Asia-themed (the titular islands being those of Japan), right down to the overseeing Sensei.
20.22: Right, two levels of the Islands down. When you are down to your final life on a checkpoint and realise if you cock up, you've gotta do the previous two insanely difficult sections again too, you relise how long (and tough) these levels are becoming.
20.47: Final Island level beating me for now, and homework calls. Just to warn you, tomorrow's liveblog will be noticeably later as I'm at work until after 9pm. See you then hopefully.

LittleBigLiveblog
(latest updates at the bottom)
14.09: Firmware Update apparently.
14.23: Two patches...
14.35: Sackboy is installing game data? Yay!
14.38: Stephen Fry, how I love your voice!
14.40: My first LittleBigTrophy =D
14.43: Introduction done.
14.48: First Steps done - these Trophies rack up quick =P
15.18: And that ding means I've completed The Gardens! Time to venture online...
15.34: Some of these levels are amazing! Great ones here from the beta that I remember too: World of Colour, Mirror's Edge and my own level of course.
15.42: Back into the single player - to the Savannah!
15.55: This game really sucks you in, carrying on to the next level is compulsive...
16.01: "My Patch!"
16.04: Meerkat Bounce is one of the minigames they showed at E3 and Liepzig, tres amusant.
16.16: Right, Savannah done, South America next, but I'm gonna stop for a bit - too much awesome is bad for the mind. Back soon!
20:02: Okay so I couldn't keep myself away for too long - screw you homework! Let's go Create!
20.03: In the beta, you had templates for all the area themes available to begin creating with, in the full game you have to earn them. No fair :(
20.04: Now I'm in the create mode (with a Savannah template, natch) and having spend mucho de time in the beta creating random and downright creepy stuff, I can say for sure that the creating is a helluva lot more stable than it was back then.
20.06: Turns out I've unlocked a lot of content playing through the game so far. I'm gonna have a play in Create now (unfortunately I'm having server issues and can't play online at the mo).
20.22: The enhanced robustness of the tools and the amount of content unlocked has really shown me the potential of LBP. And having seen so many amazing levels with the limited tools available in the beta, I am really excited to see where this game, nay - platform, will go in the future.
20.27: Just so you know, when you publish your first level, any levels you uploaded during the beta will be pulled back down to your account. Handy. And yes, you can revieve the social trophies if they apply to beta levels too.
20.38: Okay, had a bit of a play around - hoping to get some proper building time in over the weekend, but for now back to the solo game.
20.51: In the Wedding levels now (South America) and one thing has become apparent in my move West: this game is beginning to get very, very challenging.
21.02: That Gold trophy for completing the game without dying? We don't talk about that.
21.17: LittleBigPlanet demands nothing but your utmost attention. Anything else -you die. Screw it, you die anyways.
21.27: Okay, Wedding done; Mexico next!
21.28: Mexican levels about some crazy uncle, and revolve around expolosives.
21.47: Tough stuff here. Some genius gameplay using just simple ideas though, can't wait to see what the community comes up with given some time. One thing you do find with original levels vs PSN levels is depth though; obviously I'm not talking about how far down a level goes, or even the level of gameplay, but the way the stages are decorated - there's always something going on - it's this sense of busy-ness that makes you want to replay every level, just in case you've missed something (often you have).
22.01: Okay churning my way through the main game now, but I'm gonna jump online for a bit briefly before finishing for the night.
22.04: So many levels to bring up your Trophy count if you are so unclined (and by the play count a lot of people are).
22.07: Lots of pure genius levels though - I find myself going instinctively to improved versions of beta levels (LittleBigColossus for example), but things like the calculator I've previously talked about and the Gradius-clone you may have seen around the web lately are very impressive.
22.17: I'm gonna head off for the night, a bit of homework to finish before sleeptimes, toodles! See you here tomorrow!

Italian Stallion
That's right. It's here. Best possible thing ever. Heart attack surely imminent.
For when I return however, expect these things;
-Eurogamer Hands-Ons'es
-Uncharted Review
-Dead Space Review
-Bunch of other stuff that Octopus will surely pester me to write about.
I shall cut it short here since my little(big) Sack person is staring at me willingly as I type, and to that face, I just can't say no.
See you in 5 days.

WWAP #4: New Arrivals Edition
Hey there, you should finally be hearing from us again on the site this week, we’ve both been laden with schoolwork and unfortunately that meant we didn’t have the time to spend working on the blog. Hopefully though, the heavy work is now past us, and we will be continuing and expanding the site in the near future. More on that soon.
The last two weeks have been quite odd games-wise. I completed Burnout Paradise to get my very first Platinum Trophy (hopefully the first of many), and then took a bit of a break -too much Burnout kills your eyes - marking the first lengthy period of time away from my PS3 since I got it.
Then of course we had the not-so-pleasant news of the LittleBigPlanet delay, made marginally easier by the fact we know we'll be playing it on Wednesday (more on that next week), but unfortunately the new release date of November 5th is the day the Wanderer is off to Italy for the week, so he'll miss the launch. :(
Later on Mercenaries 2 got patched for trophies, so the Wanderer left his collection of Network games for a bit to play, and I ordered my copy for £25 from Play.com, which came this morning. More on that one later. Oh and Dead Space just arrived in the Aquatic Household, and from what I've heard from him, he'll be waxing lyrical about that one.
So yeah, been a bit of a break from games and the blog whilst we concentrated on school - we'll be back very soon.

WWAP #3
Hello again there.
We’re still on hiatus here at A Pail of Beavers, but I’m dropping by again to let you know what we’ve been playing this week.
Again, both of us have been digging into LittleBigPlanet, although the whole confusion over whether levels would stay online after the beta meant that we spent noticeably less time creating this week, and more time playing. Glad to see that’s all cleared up now, but seeing as the beta finishes tomorrow (which doesn’t give much time for levelmaking) you wont see any new levels from us until launch in just under two weeks. One thing we’ve found out this week in LBP however is just how incredible some of the levels being made are. Most amazing LBP creation this week? The actual working calculator. How? I vote too much spare time. Or pure genius. And yes, the ‘Braaiinnsss’ tag always gets my attention.
Aside from LBP this week, we both bought Linger In Shadows when it went up on Thursday’s store update. And about a quarter of an hour later we were done. What did I think? You’ll find out on Monday. I’ve been dabbling in a bit of Burnout here and there, mostly late at night, as this is when the Americans are online – and that is hilarious. Quoteable online conversation of the week:
“Are you a girl?”
“Yes”
“Oh my god.”
The Wanderer has been splitting his time between LittleBigPlanet, PixelJunk Eden and WipEout HD. No-one play him at WEHD, he’s a monster now. He notes that Eden is awesomer (and easier) with other players, its a pity my sisters aren’t as SIXAXIS trained as his brothers :(
See you soon.

WWAP #2
This week both of us have been spending every spare second we have crafting horrendous beautiful LittleBigPlanet levels (except that bit where we read the LittleBigPlanet review. hen we went back to playing). You can find my first level now published online under the name “Frantic Fiery Minigame of Doom” – it’s still a work in progress, but I wanted to get something online before the end of the beta. This week I’ve been designing levels to make once the full game comes out, here’s some rough ideas: V for Vendetta, Robot Wars, Doctor Who, 1984 etc. And of course many many pointless minigames. The Wanderer is also hard at work on his levels.
In un-LBP news, I plan to churn my way through the latter half of Uncharted this weekend, and probably get some good Burnouting done too. Needless to say, I’m sure you’ll here from the other one here about LBP very shortly.
SO
